The pannier tank on the right is probably the pilot loco, booked to shunt at Town from about 07.30 to 17.30. It would arrive with the 05.15 goods from Swindon, then work the 05.45 to Cirencester, which then formed the 06.34 workmans train back to Swindon Town. Passengers would transfer at Town to the 06.57 Chiseldon - Swindon service, which departed Town at 07.08. By the time shunting commenced at 07.30, the majority of Marlborough Road residents were up and about! The loco would work the evening departure to Cirencester and back. Photographer unknown.
