What follows are photographs and articles of the two special rail tours that took place on 10th
September 1961, the day after the
last public train that travelled over the line that was the M&SWJR. The images that follow also include the
papers that were handed
out on the tours. These consist of a detailed route description, outline map, gradient profiles, track diagram for
the Marlborough/Savernake area and a brief history with reference notes. I am greatly indebted to two men who were
present on the SLS tour itself. Robert Darlaston and John Woodward, thank you very much indeed. I would also like to thank
the SLS and RCTS. Without you, these rail tours may never have happened.
