Between Challow and Wantage Road relief lines have been laid to allow realtively slow moving freight trains, mainly carrying coal between Avonmouth Docks and Didcot Power Station, to be recessed when high speed train services are in the area. Class 43 no. 43 094 leads the 12.00 London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads along the four-track section near Denchworth during October 2006.
